司卡德利亞篇 Scadrial

沙賽德的最初靈感來自<古墓奇兵>裡面的跟班。

Very first inspiration for Sazed was the sidekick in The Mummy.

 

你可以從紋有沒有戴著耳針跟聲音的強度來推斷瑞恩的聲音到底是不是滅絕。一個自然浮現的記憶可能就只是記憶,但一個很刻意要她做甚麼的強大聲音可能就是瑞恩。

You can usually tell when Reen’s voice is actually Ruin based on whether she’s wearing the earring and how forceful the voice is. A naturally flowing memory is probably just a memory, but a forceful voice trying to push her in some way is probably Reen.

 

沼澤知道凱西爾現在的狀態。

Marsh is aware of Kelsier's current state.

 

統御主是因為心胸狹小才把世界上的人分成貴族跟司卡的。

The Lord Ruler divided the world into nobility and skaa because he was petty.

 

司卡德利亞的震是一種把當地語言"翻譯"成我們語言的自由詮釋(跟托爾金的做法類似)。

Earthquakes happen on Scadrial because liberties are taken when "translating" the book into our language (similar to Tolkien).

 

當司卡德利亞的軌道改變的時候,對於寰宇的其他地方沒有甚麼太大的影響。

When Scadrial's orbit was changed, it didn't affect the rest of the Cosmere in a significant way.

 

埃金屬/諧金會釋放很多的能量是因為這金屬的靈魂特性非常不穩定(一部分的滅絕,一部分的存留)。這讓它比一般化學反應還要具有爆炸性。這樣的反應不會產生"氧化諧金",但是的確會留下某種"跟寰宇很有關"的東西。諧金是一種特殊的元素(而非天金跟天鉑的合金)。

Ettmetal/Harmonium releases lots of energy because the spiritual nature of the metal (part Ruin, part Preservation) is volatile. This makes it more explosive than natural chemistry would account for. The reaction doesn't produce "harmonium oxide", but it does leave behind something "really relevant to the cosmere". It is a unique element (not an alloy of Atium and Lerasium).

 

類金屬(例如鎵跟銻)的確在鎔金術中有一席之地,不過不是每種都能被推/拉。

Metalioids (e.g. gallium, antimony) do play a role in Allomancy, though not everything is pushable/pullable.

Cheap aluminum is going to have drastic changes on Scadrian society.

 

納西斯篇 Nalthis

如果宵血出鞘而且已經沒有駐氣/靈魂可以消耗,他不會開始吞噬他周遭的世界。(好消息噢w)

If Nightblood is fully drawn and runs out of Breath/people to consume, he won't start vaporizing the world around him.

 

宵血不會睡覺。他在消耗太多授能之後會聽起來醉醉/茫茫的。

Nightblood doesn't sleep. He starts to sound drunk/drowsy if he consumes a lot of investiture.

 

一個典型的識喚術師可以把駐氣給宵血。宵血不能用駐氣來識喚。

A typical Awakener can give Breaths to Nightblood. Nightblood cannot use those Breaths to Awaken.

 

禹(Vo)的復歸發生在<破戰者>的事件前許久,但還不至於數千年之久。

  註:禹是納西斯第一個(有記載的)復歸者,也是義卓司皇室血統的源頭。

Vo’s Return prior to the events of Warbreaker was a long time ago, but not thousands of years.

 

羅沙篇 Roshar

如果布蘭登非要刪減任何<引誓>的章節,他會用別的方法出版這些遺珠。

If Brandon has to cut any Oathbringer chapters, he will make them available in some way.

 

加絲娜會是<引誓>的封面人物。(好吧這我想大家都知道了)

There will be an interlude in Oathbringer from the perspective of a soulcasting savant.

 

利芙特可以使用摩擦力做出比我們在<緣舞師>中看到的還要多的事情。她還在學習跟練習。(布蘭登似乎證明了她也能增加磨損力)

Lift is capable of using Friction to do more than what we see in Edgedancer. She is still learning and practicing. (Brandon seems to confirm that she can increase friction.)

 

變成燦軍不是基因的,但彼此靠近的人們更有可能一起變成燦軍。如果你認識一位,也更有可能變成另一位。靈可能會被吸引到特定的地區,因此對於那裡的人投入了更多關注,而靈魂上的連結也可以考慮在內。

Becoming a Radiant is not genetic, but people close to one another are more likely to become Radiants together. You’re more likely to become one if you know one. Spren may be attracted to a certain area and therefore give more attention to the people there, and spiritual connectedness can factor in.

 

洛奔是個小隊員。<引誓>中會有更多關於小隊員(squire)的解釋。

Lopen is a squire. More will be explained in Oathbringer about squires.

 

燦軍師團跟其他的碎神無關---就只有榮譽/培養。也有些是憎惡的影響,但大部分都是束虛術。<王者之路>最後的表圖就跟束虛術有關。封波術有關於人們取得創造世界的基本力量和宇宙的法則。他們透過培養跟榮譽的篩選得到這些力量。

Radiant orders are not associated with other Shards- just Honor/Cultivation. There is some Odium influence too, but that’s mostly Voidbinding. The chart in the back of TWoK is associated with Voidbinding. Surgebinding is about people accessing fundamental forces of creation and laws of the universe. They are accessing them through the filter of Cultivation and Honor.

Inkspren are attracted to thoughtful people.

No consensus yet on whether Shardblades can cut aluminum. "Err on 'no' for now."

Honorblades are pieces of Honor’s soul and gave Heralds direct access to his essence.

 

不同的聆聽者形體分別跟特定的靈互聯。對於生靈是否對應到遲鈍形體,目前保留RAFO。

Different Listener forms each correspond to a specific spren. RAFO on whether lifespren correspond to dullform.

 

帕胥人現在可以變形成帕山迪人了,只要被帶到颶風中得到靈的話。這在永颶之前是不可能的,永颶改變了一些事情。在加維拉跟伊尚尼的場景中有線索。

Parshmen can NOW be transformed into Parshendi, if led into a highstorm and given a spren. This was not true before the Everstorm, which changed them in some way. There's a clue about this in the scene with Gavilar and Eshonai.

Parshendi carapace isn't directly involved in their ability to transform.

There is a relationship between Midnight Essence and whitespines, but it's more tenuous than the relationship between chasmfiends and thunderclasts. Midnight Essence imitates what it sees around itself.

 

羅沙上的皮革大部分都來自豬。他們有很大的豬農場。

Leather on Roshar is generally from pigs. They have large farms of pigs.

 

就天文上來說,羅沙的衛星們並非處在穩定的軌道上,但是千百年後還不會出問題。這些奇怪,特殊的軌道是某件事的提示。

Roshar's moons are not in a stable orbit, astronomically speaking, but won't degrade for tens of thousands of years. These odd, specific orbits are a hint about something.

 

我們在<引誓>中會對圖卡人(Tukari,原文打錯字了)有更多了解。不多也不太重要,但至少有點值得注意。

  註:圖卡(Tukar)是羅沙中西部的小國,在瑪拉跟艾姆歐的附近。<緣舞師Edgedancer>中有出現。

We will learn more about the Tukkari in Oathbringer. Not much and nothing significant, but at least one notable thing.

 

雅列席語的音節有閃米特跟中東來源。兩個對於英語使用者而言最奇怪的子音應該是kh(要發成希伯來文的het) 跟 J(發成y的音)。在亞西須語中,kk或qq的音(例如塔席克Tashikk)是阿拉伯語喉塞音。

  註1:閃米特跟猶太意思類似,總之類似猶太話/希伯來文;het聽起來有點像沒念完的"嘿"(四聲,記得咬舌頭);喉塞音有點像是"I can't go"裡面的那個"t",幾乎是不會發出來的。所以可能是念成"塔矽(ㄎ)" (我的天啊小舖還要教語音學) (我念喉塞音差點噎到)

  註2:所以你就知道,其實Jasnah要翻譯成"雅絲娜"才對(明日奈?),Jezrien也應該唸成"耶斯倫"而不是"加斯倫"啊w

  註3:題外話,說到正確唸音,其實Adonalsium的音節是Adon-alsium,所以應該唸成"雅頓亞西"(或者像群組都叫阿冬欸咻)

Alethi phonetics have semitic and middle eastern origins. Two weirdest consonants for English speakers are the “kh” (pronounced as the Hebrew letter het) and the “j” (y-sound). In Azish the “kk” or “qq” (e.g. in Tashikk) is the Arabic glottal stop.

A "spren guide" may be included in a potential "Roshar worldbook".

 

泰爾丹篇 Taldain

泰爾丹是科技最進步的星球。它同時因為碎神而變得極端孤立。

Taldain is the most technologically advanced planet. It is also extremely isolated because of it's Shard.

 

在<白沙>第一卷中的世界設定很少;第二卷中會加入更多世界觀的元素。

The worldbuilding in White Sand Volume 1 fell short; there will be much more worldbuilding in Volume 2.

 

輓星篇 Threnody

如果布蘭登有寫輓星小說,它大概會比其他的故事更骯髒醜陋一些。

If and when Brandon writes a Threnody novel, it would likely be grittier than his other stories.

 

霍德不在<地獄森林之塞倫絲的幽影>之中。(那請問最後一頁那個「模樣油膩的傢伙」到底是誰啊???)

Hoid is not in Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell.

 

環日初星篇 First of the Sun

人類無法藉由食用帕特吉的蟲子取得力量,但是「可能有別的方法存在」。

Humans can’t gain powers by eating the worms on Patji, but “there might be something more there”.

 

泛寰宇篇 General Cosmere

意識之影是在真正死亡前的人們的幻影。

Cognitive shadows are the shadows of the people they were pre-death.

 

意識之影可以是實體也可以是非實體的。(不是新消息,我們已經知道幽影跟神將都算是意識之影了)

Cognitive shadows can be physical and non-physical.

 

有些進入意識界的方法(例如異召術和碎池)能讓你的實體界自我完全被帶入/帶出意識界。其他的方法(例如魂術)更像是某種"星光體投射",但這些可能還是很危險。

  註:星光體投射又稱為魂靈投射,是某種把靈魂從肉體中分離出來,之後再置回的實驗,有點類似操縱性的靈魂出竅。不過這東西還沒被科學證實。

Some ways of entering the Cognitive Realm (e.g. Elsecalling and Shardpools) cause your physical self to be brought fully into/out of the Cognitive Realm. Other ways (e.g. Soulcasting) is more “astral projection-y”, but these can still be dangerous.

 

寰宇中的死亡是一種二階式的過程。靈魂不會立刻崩潰;它的紀錄會逗留一陣子。

Death in the Cosmere is a two-stage process. The spirit doesn't immediately break down; there's a record of it that lingers.

A vessel will always be pulled into line with the Shard's intent, but this can be delayed depending on the individual and how hard they resist.

  註:希修斯之船是一個哲學問題。簡述:假設有一艘船,它的一個零件被汰換了,我們仍然會認為它是同一艘船;但如果某天它原初所有的零件都被汰換掉了,那它是否還是原本的那艘船呢?這是一個取代與身分存續的哲學思辨。而在寰宇中,身分取決於周圍的個體怎麼看待這個物件的存在。

The 'Ship of Theseus' in the cosmere: a thing can retain it's cognitive identity if parts are replaced - depends on whether thinking beings view it as something new or not.

 

類似地球的生命在許多沒有碎神的星球中也已經發展出來了,但如果有碎神存在則會特別明顯。這是經驗學習曲線的緣故。

Earth-like life has developed on many planets without Shards, but it is particularly common where Shards are present. This is for the sake of controlling the learning curve.

The Arcanum Unbounded constellation map was created to reside in Silverlight. It represents a partial view of the night sky from an unrevealed location (not Silverlight). It is a mural painted for a patron who has traveled throughout much of the Cosmere. Constellation names are (clockwise from Threnody) the Mourner, the Dragon, the Fisherman, the Giver, the Lamp, the Knight, and the One Tree. (plus more details on what they represent) They are based on observations/knowledge of the patron- not the locals from the location where the painting was made. Not all stars are physically within the Cosmere. (other related details) - Isaac Stewart

有關上面所講的細節,沒有多到需要重新翻譯(好累w),主要整理各星座的意義:

  • 淺顯易懂派:輓星=哀悼;羅沙=碎刃師;納西斯=吐駐氣
  • 賽耳:注意,賽耳不在油燈上,而是油燈口,這暗示了當地的魔法是"流瀉出來的"
  • 泰爾丹:孤樹,指的是當地碎神(自主)的鎖國(其實是鎖星)政策
  • 環日初星:就漁夫,沒什麼意思(WTF)
  • 司卡德利亞:因為空間太擠,根本沒有星座(藉口怎麼一個比一個爛)

Depending on the spren, a few Orders of the Radiants would have liked Allomancer Jak once.

Brandon is on board with animated adaptations of his work, but doesn't believe it is financially feasible.
